Good Food is Good Health

Good Morning Coffee Lovers,

There's a lot going on here at Brown & Jenkins these days. We are getting ready to launch a new website that I can't wait to share with you. It will streamline your search process when you are looking for a specific coffee or other information, and it will make it much simpler to share the information you want. Whether it's one of my coffee blogs or joining the coffee club, I think you are going to love it!

Locovores and Coffee Grinds

Until then local farmer's markets in Vermont are getting ready to open and I can't help but be inspired to talk about the great local food. My passion for cooking ties into that locavore desire to know where my food is coming from and who is growing it. I know many of you share that interest.

I've got customers who use our old coffee grounds for planting and growing things like oyster mushrooms. You can learn about this fun idea at Back to the Roots and even buy your own mushroom gardening kit from them. You'll know where to come for your coffee grounds! Just bring a container and we'll fill you up.

Good Sites and Good Recipes

As you enjoy your hot mug of coffee with me I invite you visit my favorite food based website. Maria's Farm Country Kitchen is a compilation of the love of organically grown and local food, gardening tips, go-to recipes, and wisdom for living. It's where I just learned about an app for sourcing local foods that sounds ideal. If you use it, tell me what you think!

I'm a true believer that what we put into our bodies impacts our health and energy level every day. So I'm going to sip my antioxidant boosting cup of Joe and meet you at our next blog!

Until our next cup,
Sandy Riggen

Why do You Love Coffee?

Good Morning coffee lovers,

As you can see, I'm starting today's coffee blog with the most personal of questions. Why do YOU love coffee? Is it just the flavor of a freshly brewed pot or the aroma of something good first thing in the morning?

I enjoy both those sensations and the feel of a warm cup in my hand. But for me it's also a connection to my past experience of watching my grandfather drink his coffee at the local diner, and later of making connections with friends and strangers over a cup of shared experience. Of course, the wake up call coffee gives me in the morning is a given!

Here's a fun article on the love of coffee by someone over at Coffee Geek that I came across. So now it is your chance to express your passion, your flavor prejudices, and your opinions on coffee. You can comment below or over on our Facebook page. What is your reason for loving coffee?

Books and Coffee

If part of your daily pleasure is enjoying your cup of coffee while reading a good book then you will definitely want to stop by tomorrow, Saturday, May 26th, from 9 to 4. Books Are Fun will be set up with their diverse display of reading materials for sale. Brian, from Jeffersonville, is even donating a portion of the profits to the amazing non-profit Cambridge 360. This volunteer run organization sells gently used household goods, at affordable prices, with the goal of using the funds to open a community center. With coffee, books and a great cause tomorrow is truly a win-win-win situation! Come on by.

Don't forget to tell me why you love coffee. Quick- answer before you get to the bottom of your cup!

Until our next cup,
Sandy Riggen
